Hmmm… so it almost slipped my mind that today is the Philippine Independence Day. In Filipino, we call it “Araw ng Kasarinlan” which translates to Day of Freedom. This is an annual national holiday observed every twelfth of June, commemorating the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on the 12th of June 1898.

The flag of the United States is lowered while the Flag of the Philippines is raised during the Independence Day ceremonies on July 4, 1946.

On the 4th of July 1946, the United States of America granted Independence to the Philippines through the Treaty of Manila. 4th of July, the date chosen by the United States to have it in line with the American Independence Day, was observed in the Philippines until 1962.
